Spatial Locations via Morpho-Mereology

چکیده
We present a calculus for representing and reasoning about the location of rigid objects which may move within some region (we will speak ofmobile parts). The calculus has both a mereological primitive and a morphological one, hence the title of the paper. We present an axiomatisation for congruence, our chosen morphological primitive, define the notion of mobile part, describe a subset of morphomereological relations suitable for representing spatial locations, and analyze the computational complexity of this set.

Designing an Algorithm for Generating Named Spatial References
We describe an initial version of an algorithm for generating named references to locations of geographic scale. We base the algorithm design on evidence from corpora and experiments, which show that named entity usage is extremely frequent, even in less obvious scenes, and that names are normally used as the first focus on a global region. The current algorithm normally selects the Frames of R...
متن کاملRough Mereology as a Tool for Knowledge Discovery and Reasoning in Intelligent Systems: A Survey
In this work, we present an account of our recent results on applications of rough mereology to problems of 1) knowledge granulation; 2) granular preprocessing in knowledge discovery by means of decision rules; 3) spatial reasoning in multi-agent systems in exemplary case of intelligent mobile robotics.
متن کاملRelations Algebras in Qualitative Spatial Reasoning
The formalization of the “part – of” relationship goes back to the mereology of S. Leśniewski, subsequently taken up by Leonard & Goodman (1940), and Clarke (1981). In this paper we investigate relation algebras obtained from different notions of “part–of”, respectively, “connectedness” in various domains. We obtain minimal models for the relational part of mereology in a general setting, and w...
متن کاملHeyting Mereology as a Framework for Spatial Reasoning
In this paper it is shown that Heyting and Co-Heyting mereological systems provide a convenient conceptual framework for spatial reasoning, in which spatial concepts such as connectedness, interior parts, (exterior) contact, and boundary can be defined in a natural and intuitively appealing way. This fact refutes the wide-spread contention that mereology cannot deal with the more advanced aspec...
متن کاملContact Relation Algebras
Contact relation algebras (CRAs), introduced in Düntsch et al. (1999), arise from the study of “part–of” and “contact” relations rooted in mereology and have applications, for example, in qualitative spatial reasoning. We give an overview of the origins of CRAs and numerous examples.
